Eclectic Spectrum: I have to remind myself that I’m 1st generation.
It’s a different experience living in America. There are moments when I feel like since I’m not descended from slaves I have no business talking about certain things.
Oh yeah, not disagreeing with anything you wrote. Just trying to add that “middle ground” of people (like me) who get treated like every other black woman in America on the street but then treated differently since I’m first-gen, but also have a common history with the disapora.
Edit: and I too think I need to get in touch with my roots (which gets complicated in a lot of ways thanks to being diasporic, being Jamaican, being from Brooklyn which is its own Caribbean microcosm and so I feel attached to things in different ways than I might if I were born & raised in JA instead)
